At this year’s Night of a Million Stars Gala, hosted by the Allyson Whitney Foundation, guests were greeted by a breathtaking mural that perfectly captured the evening’s spirit of hope and resilience. The artwork, a radiant sunflower and butterfly bathed in golden light, was created by local artist and educator, Tobi Magnetico—known professionally as The Making Box Studio.

Tobi, a resident of Sullivan County, New York, has built her artistic journey around exploring many different creative forms, including theatrical set design, ceramics, portrait painting, fiber arts, and mural work. Her versatility and passion for storytelling through art shine through in every piece she creates. For more than a decade, Tobi has also shared her artistic gifts with young minds as an art educator at Fallsburg Jr/Sr High School, inspiring the next generation of creators.

Her current body of work delves into the themes of narrative and nostalgia—weaving emotion, memory, and meaning into each brushstroke. For this special commission, Tobi sought to translate the Foundation’s mission into a visual narrative filled with love, light, and resilience.

TOBI: “Good evening. I’m honored to have created this artwork for the Allyson Whitney Foundation. My wish is that the mural communicates the spirit of this community: one of love, light, strength, resilience, and hope. Thank you for allowing me to contribute in a small way to such an extraordinary mission.”

The finished mural, unveiled at the gala, embodies the Foundation’s dedication to supporting young adults battling rare cancers. The vibrant sunflower and butterfly symbolize growth, transformation, and enduring beauty—a fitting tribute to the Foundation’s ongoing impact and the community that surrounds it.

This beautiful mural will continue to inspire, as it travels to local Allyson Whitney Foundation events throughout the year. It will serve as a reminder of the community’s shared commitment to hope, healing, and helping others thrive.

Through her work, Tobi Magnetico reminds us that art has the power to heal, connect, and inspire. Her mural now stands as a visual testament to the compassion and creativity that continue to bloom in Sullivan County and beyond.
